How PSS Labs collects, uses and protects information when you use the PlacePlot app and related services.
Pradipta Das (PSS Labs) built the PlacePlot app as a Freemium app. This SERVICE is provided by Pradipta Das (PSS Labs) and is intended for use as is.
This page is used to inform anyone using the app regarding my policies with the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information if anyone decided to use my Service.
If you choose to use my Service, then you agree to the terms in this policy. The Personal Information you enter is used only for providing the Service. I do not collect, transmit, or share your information with anyone, except as described in this Privacy Policy.
The terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in our Terms and Conditions unless otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy.
Information Collection and Use
PlacePlot is an on-device app. Your trips, the places you pin, their names, addresses, coordinates, notes and categories, and the day-by-day itineraries you build from them are stored only on your device, in the app's own private database. I do not collect this information, it is never sent to me, and there is no server of mine behind this app. There is no account, no sign-in and no email address to hand over.
PlacePlot does not ask for and does not use your device's location. There is no current-location button, and the app has no location permission. Every place on your map is one you added yourself, by pasting a link or by typing coordinates.
The app requires internet access for one reason: the map tiles themselves are served by Google Maps, which needs a connection to draw the map. Google's handling of those map requests is governed by Google's own privacy policy. The pins, notes and itineraries you place on top of that map are not sent to Google or to anyone else.
Two further network calls exist, and both happen only when you explicitly paste a link or an address into the app:
* When you paste a shortened Google Maps share link, the app follows that link's redirect to read the coordinates out of the full address. Nothing but that link is sent.
* When a pasted link carries an address or a Plus Code rather than coordinates, the app asks OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to turn that text into a point on the map. Only the text you pasted is sent, and it is governed by the OpenStreetMap Foundation's own privacy policy.
Neither call is ever made in the background, and nothing about your trips is included in either one.
Sharing, exporting, saving a PDF or a backup file to your phone's storage, and opening a place in the Google Maps app all happen only when you choose to. The file or the link goes to the app or location you pick, and I do not receive a copy.
Third Party Services
PlacePlot does not use advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or crash/log reporting services. No usage data, log data, or device identifiers are collected by the app.
The third parties involved are:
* Google Maps SDK, which draws the map tiles inside the app
* OpenStreetMap Nominatim, used only for the explicit address lookup described above
* Apple App Store (StoreKit) and Google Play Billing, which handle the optional one-time unlock purchase
The store services are used solely to process the optional one-time unlock and to restore it on your devices. Their handling of your purchase information is governed by their own privacy policies.
Log Data
PlacePlot does not collect Log Data. The app does not gather your IP address, device name, operating system details, or usage statistics, and it does not send any such information off your device.
Cookies
This Service does not use cookies. As the app does not load remote web content or web tracking, no cookies are stored or transmitted.
Security
Your trips stay on your device, inside the app's own private storage, protected by your device's security. Because nothing is stored on a server of mine, there is no copy of your plans anywhere for anyone to obtain. I value your trust, but remember that no method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and I cannot guarantee absolute security of data once it leaves your device through a share or an export you save yourself.
Because your trips exist only on your device, uninstalling the app or losing the device removes them. The export and backup features exist so you can keep your own copy.
Links to Other Sites
This Service may contain links to other sites, and can hand a place off to the Google Maps app for directions. If you follow such a link, you will be directed to that site or app. Note that these external destinations are not operated by me. I strongly advise you to review their Privacy Policies. I have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.
Children's Privacy
This Service does not address anyone under the age of 13. I do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. Since the app stores everything locally and collects nothing, no such information reaches me. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has entered something into the app, that data resides only on the device and can be removed by deleting it within the app.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. I will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. These changes are effective immediately after they are posted on this page.
